This year's competition featured the most difficult problem to date. The student teams were asked to evaluate and prioritize the locations across the United States for the construction of a new high-speed rail system. The student teams were asked to put together an entry that featured good, well-organized writing as well as a good, structured mathematical model. The team of Jonmichael Chavez-Rivas, Jordan Taylor, Amy Hill, and Caroline Ford advanced to the final round and were honorable mention from over 3500 entries.
